Throughout a high school sports season, there are special moments that stick with you as a journalist. The championship moments come to mind first, like Skylar Smith’s game-winning 3-pointer for Hilton Head Christian Academy or Tyler Haley’s clutch pass to McLeod Reichel to lead Beaufort High to a Lower State title. But the most rewarding moment of my work is seeing the culmination of dreams years in the making: the day where a lofty goal becomes an achieved reality. 

VB: LCVC 17 National coasts to January Jam title

A squad made up of players from high school throughout the Lowco captured a tournament title this weekend, as Low Country Volleyball Club’s 17 National team went undefeated to win the Palmetto Volleyball Association’s January Jam in Charleston on Saturday and Sunday.

Makenna Mason was named the Class 4A Player of the Year and joined on the Class 4A All-State team by teammate Ady O’Grady, while seniors O’Grady and Kenzie Ryan were invited to play in the SCHSL Class 4A/5A Volleyball All-Star match on Saturday.

HSVB: Seahawks’ title defense derailed by Hornets’ comeback

After taking a two-set lead, it looked like Hilton Head High’s return to the state title match was a mere formality. But the Aiken Hornets stormed back on their home court Tuesday to stun the defending SCHSL Class 4A champs in five sets (17-25, 17-25, 25-18, 26-24, 15-7) and end the Seahawks’ back-to-back championship hopes.
