HSFB: Five Lowco seniors picked for S.C. all-star game

The Lowco will be well-represented in South Carolina’s biggest all-star football game this December. Five area standouts were selected Monday to play in the 2021 Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl, joining a list of 88 high school seniors across the state.

Hilton Head’s boys and May River’s girls bested their county rivals on the trails Thursday, claiming both the team and individual titles at the 2021 Beaufort County Cross Country Championship in Bluffton.

Another week of high school football is in the books, and it might have been the most exciting one yet this season. We saw a captivating rivalry game, a shocker in a first-place region showdown, and a bunch of phenomenal individual performances. Let’s take a look around the Lowco and see what we learned in Week 8.

HSFB: Douglas, defense lead Sharks to upset of Eagles in battle of region heavyweights

The underdogs absorbed a couple of early punches and fought back with a flurry of big plays as May River went into the Eagles’ Nest on Friday and unseated two-time defending region champion Beaufort High with a 24-21 victory that puts the Sharks in the driver’s seat in Region 7-4A.

HSFB: Lowco First Down — Week 8

A couple of title fights topped the bill on a 10-game slate of high school football games around the Lowco in Week 8. May River knocked off Beaufort High in a heavyweight clash in Region 7-4A, and Thomas Heyward essentially assured it will retain its SCISA Region 1-1A title with a romp over St. John's Christian. Plus, the Seahawks retain the Bridge Bowl trophy, and Beaufort Academy stayed on track for a region title clash with Hilton Head Christian Academy next week.
