It’s hard to believe, but we’re just over a month away from the start of high school football. We don’t see many opportunities for inter-squad preseason action at this level, but on Thursday at Beaufort High, we got a taste of what should be a spectacular fall of gridiron action in the Lowco.
Eight area public and private schools got a taste of live competition Thursday in a 7-on-7 tournament at Beaufort High presented by the South Coastal Fellowship of Christian Athletes. The host Eagles continued their local dominance on the gridiron, downing Hilton Head High 12-6 in the championship game to finish the day 6-0 and claim preseason county bragging rights.

There was very little interest at the college level for Beaufort High defensive back Ron Parker. But he wasn’t ready to let his gridiron dreams slip away that quickly. It would take a steep road with lots of hurdles to get to the top of the mountain, and Parker was ready to accept the challenge.
The Lowco was well-represented during the USA Weightlifting National Championship this week in Detroit, as Team Beaufort Weightlifting members CJ Cummings, Marr-Khie Desvarieux, Ian Graham and Dade Stanley took home medals in their respective weight classes. Cummings claimed his first senior National Championship while Stanley won the Junior National Championship.
