During the first four frames in Darlington on Wednesday night, Colleton County softball looked nearly unstoppable. But just one inning later, it all slipped away in an instant.
Colleton County thought it had a game-ending double play to seal a Game 1 win over visiting Darlington in Game 1 of the Class 4A Lower State softball championship series, only to see the game extended when a close call didn’t go the Cougars' way, and the Falcons took advantage, scoring a pair of runs with two outs and leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to escape with a 3-2 victory.

Maggie Kennedy delivered the clutch two-out hit to cap off an 11th inning rally, and Colleton County topped visiting South Florence 10-9 on Friday to secure the SCHSL Class 4A District 3 championship and advance to the Lower State championship series.
