After another sensational season on the volleyball court, three Hilton Head High stars earned major state accolades Thursday from the South Carolina Coaches Association of Women’s Sports.
Makenna Mason was named the Class 4A Player of the Year and joined on the Class 4A All-State team by teammate Ady O’Grady, while seniors O’Grady and Kenzie Ryan were invited to play in the SCHSL Class 4A/5A Volleyball All-Star match on Saturday.

Mason delivered another brilliant campaign at setter for the Seahawks, finishing the regular season with an incredible 840 assists. The junior and Region 7-4A player of the year displayed her tremendous versatility across the court, totaling 115 kills for a phenomenal .417 hitting percentage alongside 212 digs and 21 blocks. Her vision, quickness, and leadership abilities were instrumental in the Seahawks’ run to the Lower State final.
O’Grady capped off her high school career with another monster season at middle hitter, racking up an impressive 304 kills in 36 matches. The Hilton Head Christian Academy transfer was a force at the net for Garret Talarcyzk’s squad, making 42 total blocks while adding 206 digs and 51 service aces. Her leadership was on full display throughout her Hilton Head High tenure, propelling the Seahawks to a state championship in 2020 before notching a second consecutive final four appearance in her senior year. O’Grady will continue her volleyball career at the next level, committing in August to play at USC Upstate.
A major component to the Seahawk offense throughout her career, Ryan put together a strong season in 2021 with 140 kills. She was an unstoppable presence on the outside during Hilton Head High’s postseason run, making key plays down the stretch with her phenomenal strength and athleticism. She showcased her tremendous defensive effort all season long, recording 101 digs while shining on the service line with 28 aces.
Ryan and O’Grady will join forces with the South squad in the South Carolina Coaches Association of Women’s Sports’ 4A/5A All-Star match on Saturday at West Florence High School.
