The most comprehensive sports coverage in the Lowcountry is about to enter a new frontier with the impending launch of the LowcoSports Lowdown podcast!
The podcast, which will be co-hosted by LowcoSports founder Justin Jarrett and longtime Lowcountry sports fan Wes Kerr, will be recorded weekly throughout the high school sports season with time off during slower periods of the year, such as the holiday season and the summer months.
The show will feature lively banter about local sports topics, including previews and predictions, as well as interviews with players, coaches, and other interesting figures in the local sports scene, giving Lowcountry sports fans yet another way to keep up on the latest news and celebrate the successes of area teams and athletes.
“When I first launched LowcoSports.com, I envisioned a podcast as a part of the puzzle at some point in the future, but it was difficult to find the time to produce it and I wanted to make sure I had the right co-host,” Jarrett said. “When I heard about Wes and his dream to start a local sports podcast, I instantly knew we would be the perfect team to get this thing started.”
Jarrett was a sports reporter and editor at The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette from 2005-11 before becoming the sports information and marketing director at USCB from 2011-17. He launched LowcoSports.com in June 2017 to fill the void of local sports coverage, and the website has grown steadily, attracting hundreds of readers daily.
Kerr is a graduate of Hilton Head Island High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics from Davidson College, where he also studied communications and computer science while working as a sports reporter for the school newspaper and as a social media manager and data analyst for the athletics department. He also performed internships at WHHI-TV and Frey Media on Hilton Head Island.
“I am looking forward to sharing the excitement of Lowcountry sports with our great fans,” Kerr said.
The first episode of the podcast is scheduled to be released the week of Oct. 28. Sponsorship opportunities will be announced soon. Please email LowcoSports@gmail.com for sponsorship information.
