We’ve come to the end of another football season in the Lowco, and this year’s edition may have been one of the most special yet. We saw a pair of state champions defend their titles and another team run the gauntlet all the way to the final weekend in Columbia. We witnessed a Lowco star crowned as the top player in the state, and a number of others earn recognition for their hard work on and off the field. We’ll always look back on this 2021 season, and especially these moments and stories that captivated us over a memorable fall.
After slaying Myrtle Beach up in the Grand Strand and crushing West Florence in front of a packed home stadium, the Beaufort High Eagles have earned their way to Benedict College for Thursday’s Class 4A title bout against former coach DeVonte Holloman and South Pointe. As the two familiar faces prepare for the showdown in Columbia, let’s take a look at some key players on both sides in the 2021 Lowco football season’s grand finale.
A football coach does so much more than just teaching kids how to win on the field. They are responsible for molding young men to become impactful individuals and future leaders of our community. And nobody did that better over these last few years than Dave Adams and John Houpt. As Houpt makes the transition to his next chapter and Adams embarks on his well-deserved retirement, let’s look back on how both have made their mark here in the Lowcountry.
