While we were busy following the Beaufort Eagles all the way to the state championship as the high school football season wrapped up, high school basketball action across the Lowco started to heat up. Here’s a look at the hoops action around the area earlier this week.
FIRST LOOK: Beaufort claims Class 3A state title, ending 77-year drought
Kacy Fields dominated with 219 rushing yards and three touchdowns plus one more on a 93-yard kickoff return, Colton Phares added 198 yards on the ground with two scores, and the Eagles topped Powdersville 41-31 without attempting a pass at Benedict College on Thursday to capture the SCHSL 3A state championship and bring home Beaufort County’s first public school football state title since 1945.

If you’re new around here, the juggernaut Bryce Lybrand has built at Beaufort High might have you thinking it’s old hat for football teams from the Lowco to make the trek to Columbia (or Clemson, in different times) the week after Thanksgiving and try to bring home a state title. Not so much.
