HSFB25: Lowco First Down | Week 4

We had a fresh baker’s dozen of high school football games on tap involving teams from the Lowco coverage area on Friday night, including a couple of Lowco-on-Lowco clashes.

Beaufort continued its dominance over rival Battery Creek, Hilton Head held serve in Hampton County, and the last two unbeaten teams in the Lowco stumbled, plus a whole mess of blowouts.

Here’s what went down in Week 4. It’s Lowco First Down.


Beaufort 48, Battery Creek 0 

Braydon Moyd-Smalls threw touchdown passes to Keaudre Jenkins and Qualeek Isnar and added a rushing touchdown of his own, and Bryson Broadwater added a pair of rushing scores as the Eagles routed their rivals for their 17th straight win in the series dating to Battery Creek’s last win in 2003.

Hilton Head 45, Hampton Co. 21

The Seahawks took charge after a competitive first half — and a lengthy lightning delay — to dominate after the break, as former Hurricanes star Jayvin Risher rushed for 68 yards and three touchdowns in his homecoming, and Jeremiah Walters scored on a 37-yard interception return and caught a touchdown pass from Derrick Raniszewski. Jaylen Singletary amassed 257 yards from scrimmage and scored three first-half touchdowns for Hampton County.

Lucy Beckham 35, Bluffton 20

The Bobcats suffered their first loss despite Aedan McCarthy completing 25 of 33 passes for 365 yards and two touchdowns and connecting with Carnell Warren eight times for 166 yards and two TDs. 

Next week: Bluffton (4-1) at Hilton Head


Stratford 51, Colleton Co. 0

The Cougars couldn’t carry over the momentum from last week’s win over Stall, as the Knights dominated from the outset. Colleton County has a week off to prepare for its Region 6-4A opener at May River.

Philip Simmons 46, Whale Branch 14 

The Warriors couldn’t contain the Iron Horses’ passing game, as Hayes Goddard passed for 251 yards and four touchdowns, with Ashton Kellerman and Patrick Clarke each hauling in two touchdown passes. 

Next week: Whale Branch (2-3) at Battery Creek


Lee Central 26, Hardeeville 21

Freshman Kyrin Jamison threw touchdown passes to Greg Grant and Camari Brown, and Brown added a rushing score, but the Hurricanes’ second-half surge fell just short in a tough non-region matchup.

Next week: Hardeeville (1-4) at Ridgeland


Ridgeland 70, Burke 20

The Jaguars’ early-season offensive woes came to a crashing halt, as Bam Crawford rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns and Taishaun Smith added a pair of rushing scores, and Ridgeland’s defense and special teams accounted for five touchdowns in a rout. 

Next week: Ridgeland (1-4) vs. Hardeeville


Hammond 56, HHCA 0

The Skyhawks dominated from the outset, limiting the Eagles to 115 total yards of offense and forcing five turnovers. Hammond quarterback Ben Muela Kiser rushed 12 times for 152 yards and passed for 145 yards, and Levi Myers added a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Skyhawks.

Hilton Head Prep 24, Augusta Christian 7

Wyatt Harmer rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown and went 11-of-17 passing for 142 yards with a scoring toss to Finnian Rooney, and Davis Cargill added a rushing score to help the Dolphins claim their first win of the season on the road.

Next week: HHP (1-4) at Dillon Christian


Bethesda Academy 56, Patrick Henry 0 

The Blazers continued their dominant start to the season with another blowout win, putting up 48 points in the first half and holding the Patriots to 39 total yards and a negative rushing total. 

Next week: PHA (1-4) is idle


Dorchester Academy 21, Beaufort Academy 8

John Whetsell scored a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to ice a big win for the Raiders in a defensive struggle at Merritt Field. Nych Underwood’s 60-yard touchdown run tied it at 8 at halftime, but the Eagles couldn’t find the end zone after the break, and Whetsell’s second TD of the night sealed the win with 34 seconds left.

Colleton Prep 56, Clarendon Hall 0

The War Hawks needed only 21 offensive plays to clobber the Saints, as Cale Owens went 7-of-9 passing for 286 yards and four TDs with Perry Corbett on the receiving end of four passes for 205 yards and three scores. Charlie Walker added 58 yards and scored on both of his carries, and he added three tackles and two interceptions on defense.

Palmetto Christian 52, Cross Schools 14

The Stingrays couldn’t contain the Eagles’ powerful ground game, as Eli Beville led the way with 205 yards and three touchdowns and PCA rolled up more than 450 yards of total offense.
