Lowco HS Girls Lacrosse Roundup: March 17-19

The May River Sharks pulled out a thrilling win over Lowco rival Beaufort High, and Lucy Beckham continued its region dominance by downing Hilton Head High 16-7. Here’s a look at the latest girls’ lacrosse action in the Lowco Girls Lacrosse Roundup. 

THURSDAY’S GAMES

Beaufort High at May River

May River held off a late Beaufort High rally Thursday to pick up a key 13-12 region victory over the Eagles. Beaufort overcame a 7-5 halftime deficit to go up 12-11 before the Sharks struck back with two late goals and took the lead with 49 seconds left. The Eagles won the ensuing draw control and earned a free-position shot with three seconds left, but Holland Perryman’s bid sailed just wide of the net as the Sharks held on.

Hilton Head High vs. Lucy Beckham

Lucy Beckham finished off the two-game sweep of Hilton Head High on Thursday with a 16-7 win. The Bengals took control with a pair of late goals in the first half to open up a 6-2 lead, and rattled off five straight early in the second  to pull away. The Seahawks failed to capitalize on free-position shots, converting just 2-of-8 in the contest.

HHIHS: Anna Ferrebee 3G; Maddie Massey 2G

LBHS: Avery Hull 6G; Anne Edens 4G

Next up: HHIHS (6-3, 4-2) at James Island on Monday


James Island at Bluffton

Bluffton couldn’t stop a strong James Island offense in the second half in a 16-6 home loss to the Trojans. The Bobcats trailed 6-2 at halftime before the Trojans exploded for 10 goals after the break. 

Next up: BLHS (0-7, 0-6) at May River on Monday 


SATURDAY’S GAME

Beaufort at Pinewood Prep

Beaufort High couldn’t keep pace with Pinewood Prep on the road Saturday in a 17-8 non-region defeat. The Eagles came out strong and allowed just one goal in the first nine minutes, but the Panthers quickly found their groove to open up a 10-2 halftime lead.
