Lowco HS Girls Soccer Roundup: March 7-10

We’re getting our feet under us as we transition from winter sports to the chaotic spring season, and we’ll have more in-depth coverage of spring sports teams around the Lowco as the season goes on, including live game coverage, photo galleries, weekly sport spotlights — pending sponsorship! — and plenty of analysis on our lineup of podcasts. In the meantime, here’s a look at the high school girls soccer action from around the Lowco earlier this week.

John Paul II at Beaufort Academy

Sara Castaldi netted a pair of goals in the Golden Warriors’ season opener to lead her team to a 2-1 victory on the road against Beaufort Academy on Monday. Jayden Sylvester assisted with a pass to Castaldi on one of the goals, and the other was unassisted. 

John Paul II at Palmetto Christian

Sara Castaldi picked up her third goal of the season in the Golden Warriors’ second straight victory as John Paul II won 3-0 at home against Palmetto Christian on Tuesday. Emma Sauls added a goal, on an assist by Evelyn Melnick, and Brady Mahoney finished off a Paige Weniger cross into the middle for the third tally. Trinity Grace Maxwell secured the shutout with a diving stop on a penalty kick from a called handball in the box. The Golden Warriors (2-0) are back in action at Hilton Head Christian Academy (2-0) at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Bluffton at Hilton Head Island High

Scoreless at the half, Bluffton’s Gwenna Townsend found the net two minutes into the second, and Angelina Facenda sealed the 2-0 win late at Hilton Head Island High. Bluffton (3-0) hosted May River on Friday. The Seahawks (2-3) traveled to Colleton County on Friday. 

Battery Creek at Academic Magnet

Academic Magnet stunned Battery Creek in a 9-1 conference victory on Tuesday. Taelyr Daugherty scored Battery Creek’s lone goal on an assist by Sophia Felix. Goalie Anna Moore had 16 saves in the loss. Battery Creek (4-2) is back in action at Bishop England at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Holy Trinity at Hilton Head Christian Academy

Abby Peduzzi netted five goals to lead her team’s offensive attack in a 10-0 victory against Holy Trinity on Tuesday. Bless Hurtado jumped in with a goal and three assists, and Addie Lentz and Ava Pratt added one goal and one assist each. Hayleigh Hingtgen and Isabel Cunningham each netted one goal, and Devon Yarde had two assists. The Eagles (2-0) are back in action against Westminster School at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Whale Branch vs. Charleston Math & Science

Kailey Pusha-Weeks and Trinady Downs each netted goals in a 2-0 Whale Branch win against Charleston Math & Science on Tuesday. Naliyah Poston added one assist in the victory. The Warriors (1-2) travel to Wade Hampton (2-1) for a non-region game at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
