Georgia Class 7A powerhouse Camden County is on top with Peach State rival South Effingham on its heels, but host May River is in sixth place among 32 teams and 16 Lowco wrestlers are still in the hunt for gold after the opening day of the May River Shark Invitational on Wednesday.

Camden County racked up 87 points on day one and still has 13 wrestlers left in the championship bracket going into Thursday’s quarterfinals. South Effingham is just five points back with 10 wrestlers in the quarterfinals, while Summerville is third with 76 points and 11 quarterfinalists.
The host Sharks sit sixth with 66 points and six wrestlers left in the hunt for gold – Emilio Mendoza (120), Isaiah Wysong (132), EJ Seman (138), Santiago Rueda (145), Gabe Juarez (170), and Chris Snowden (182).
Hilton Head High is in 11th place after day one with five wrestlers still striving for individual titles – Drew Vigh (132), Darnell Browner (145), KJ Holland (152), Jimmy Jacobs (160), and Brayven Shapiro (285).
Beaufort High’s Andrew Legree (145), Peter Adam Burnevich (160), and Colton Phares (182) are still undefeated in the tournament, along with Battery Creek’s Sam Degroat (120) and Bluffton’s Bradley Denmark (285).
Wrestling resumes at 10 a.m. Thursday.
