HSBBB: Quick start propels Seahawks to split with Wildcats

Hilton Head High boys basketball picked up its second victory in two days with a terrific shooting display Tuesday, rolling Richmond Hill at home 66-49.

The Seahawks flew out of the starting blocks on their home court, racing to a 23-10 lead thanks to an early eight-point burst and two three-pointers from Jocorey Walters. Richmond Hill trimmed the deficit to 11 points at halftime, but the Seahawks ran away in the third quarter with a dominant 23-8 run.

Josh Hennum put on the finishing touches in the fourth, sinking a pair of three-pointers to cap off the evening and avenge his team’s overtime loss to the Wildcats earlier this month.

It was a balanced effort for a stellar Seahawk offense, as five players put up nine or more points. Walters and Hennum paced the squad with 11 points and three triples each, Alex Smith and Zac Morris both scored 10, and Karyce Campbell added nine.

Hilton Head High (7-5, 2-0) resumes region play Tuesday at Colleton County.
