Notre Dame-bound Hilton Head High star Jaylen Sneed was named the Player of the Year and region champion May River coach Rodney Summers earned Coach of the Year honors on the All-Region 7-4A football team released this week.
State runner-up Beaufort High led the way with nine players on the All-Region squad, while May River had six selections. Bluffton, Hilton Head High, and James Island each had four players on the list, and Colleton County had one selection.
Sneed was a star on both sides of the ball for the Seahawks, anchoring the defense and taking over as the starting quarterback at midseason. He racked up 101 tackles (11.2 per game) with eight tackles for loss, eight quarterback pressures, a sack, a pass breakup, and two interceptions, and he rushed for 815 yards and 11 touchdowns and tossed a pair of TD passes. Sneed plans to enroll early at Notre Dame in January and take part in spring drills with the Fighting Irish.
Summers led the Sharks to an unlikely region title after returning an inexperienced squad that had to replace a number of star players. The Sharks ran through the region with a 5-0 mark and finished 8-3 overall, falling to North Myrtle Beach in the first round of the playoffs.
