HS SWIM: Seahawks sweep eight-team dual at Island Rec

Hilton Head High swimming continued its local dominance in the pool Tuesday, sweeping all seven duals against area foes in both the boys’ and girls’ meets at the Island Recreation Center.

Both Seahawk squads went 7-0 in the eight-team dual meet. Bluffton’s boys and May River’s girls were 6-1, while Beaufort High’s boys and girls each finished 5-2.

The Seahawk boys took four events on the day with individual victories from Dylan Magda (200 IM) and Blaise Minkler (500 free) alongside a pair of relay wins. James Stone won two races for Beaufort High (50 free, 100 free), while teammate Cameron Hussman captured the 100 backstroke. Charlie Deaton (200 free) and Carter Hawkes (100 fly) picked up wins for Bluffton, while the Bobcat 200 medley relay also placed first. Jack Ussery impressed for Hilton Head Christian, winning the 100 breaststroke for the Eagles.

Despite the May River girls’ six victories including two individual wins from Hannah Yemec (50 free, 100 fly), Hilton Head High outswam the Sharks by a narrow 19-point margin. The Seahawks were led by first-place finishes from Katie Lyons (200 IM) and Isabella Pozos (100 free) alongside a relay triumph. Mia Yemec (100 back), Shelby Gourley (100 breast), and a duo of relays also won races for MRHS. Sterling Burd shined in the pool for Hilton Head Prep, taking both the 200 and 500 freestyle.
