HS GOLF: Seahawks come out on top in second straight region meet

Hilton Head High boys golf edged rival Beaufort High for the second straight day Thursday, firing a 163 at Eagles Pointe Golf Club to beat the Eagles by three shots in a Region 7-4A meet. 

James Island (169) was third, followed by May River (172) and Bluffton (195). Colleton County did not record a team score. 

May River’s Andrew Swanson and James Island’s John Wohlscheid shared medalist honors with scores of 1-over-par 37, but runner-up Nolan Hawkins (38) led a solid, balanced effort from the Seahawks. Michael Gavin (40), Garrett Fader (41), and Elliott Jones (44) contributed to the winning score for HHIHS, while Jackson Crouch (45) rounded out the lineup with a strong round of his own.

Jack Lubkin and Simon McAlister led Beaufort with matching 40s, while George Cooler (42) and Jerry Bruns (44) completed the scoring for the Eagles. Jones Saylor led Bluffton with a 44, and Kyle Kelly and Trystan Smoak carded 48s to lead the Cougars.

The next Region 7-4A match is set for Tuesday at the Golf Club at Pleasant Point.
