After one week of LowcoSports High School Basketball Player of the Week voting, it’s clear we have some passionate – and potentially tech-savvy – girls hoops fans in the area.
Two players combined for almost 3,500 votes – more than the number of unique visitors to the website since the poll was posted #puzzledemoji – with Hilton Head Christian Brielle McCarthy (56 percent) pulling away from Thomas Heyward’s Gabby Boyle (29.9 percent) this afternoon.
The vote totals were a bit dubious, but the numbers area girls hoopsters put up this week were not – five of the six nominees averaged at least 14 points, and Boyles averaged a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards per contest.
The boys voting was more balanced – and seemingly more legit. Hilton Head High’s Chris Washington garnered 37.7 percent of the vote to edge Thomas Heyward’s Zack Black (27.4 percent).
No love for Jermaine Patterson’s 32 points per game and almost single-handedly carrying Bluffton to two wins? OK, then.
Let’s do it again next week, and perhaps with a little more voter integrity.
