Lowco HS Girls Soccer Roundup, March 6

March has arrived, and that means girls soccer season is in full bloom. A pair of Region 7-4A contenders flexed their muscles over the weekend, as Bluffton and May River each picked up a key victory. Hilton Head Christian Academy continued its SCISA 2A title defense with another dominant win, and Hilton Head Prep scored a shutout over a strong St. Vincent’s squad. Here’s a look at the action on the pitch around the Lowco this weekend.

Bluffton at Beaufort

The Bobcats found their offense late to get past a strong Beaufort High squad Friday, defeating the Eagles 2-0 on the road to open Region 7-4A play. 

After a defensively-played first half, the Bobcats broke the stalemate with 12 minute to go. Angelina Facendo knocked in an Emmaline Parrott corner to grab the lead, and Anna Parrott added a key insurance goal off a through ball with three minutes to play. Chapelyn Terodemos held it down between the pipes for Bluffton, recording four saves and a clean sheet. 

Bluffton (2-0, 1-0) travels to Hilton Head High for a key region matchup Tuesday, while Beaufort (0-2, 0-1) travels to Pinewood Prep for a non-region clash Tuesday. 

May River at Colleton County

The Sharks built a 4-0 lead at halftime and held it down with two more goals after the intermission to cruise to a 6-1 road win over the Cougars. 

May River (5-0, 1-0) hosts defending Class 4A state champion James Island in another region matchup Tuesday. Colleton County (3-1, 0-1) travels to Lucy Beckham for a region clash Tuesday. 

Battery Creek at Wade Hampton

The Dolphins stayed level at 2 with Wade Hampton over the first half, but the Red Devils netted the game-winner after the break for a 3-2 win at home.. 

Sophia Felix and Ruthie Floyd each had a goal and an assist, and Anna Moore made four saves for the Dolphins. 

Battery Creek (4-1, 1-0) resume region play at Academic Magnet on Tuesday. 

HHCA at First Baptist

The Eagles showcased their dominant attack for a second straight game Friday, improving to 2-0 with a 6-2 win at First Baptist. Defending SCISA 2A champion HHCA has scored 11 goals in its first two games. 

Abby Peduzzi led the way with two goals and an assist, Amy Graupner and Hayleigh Hingtgen added a goal and an assist apiece, and Isabel Cunningham and Addie Lentz each scored once for the Eagles, while Bless Hurtado dished out three assists. Reese Clark made six saves behind a stellar back line to earn the win in goal.

HHCA (2-0) hosts Holy Trinity on Tuesday. 

St. Vincent’s at Hilton Head Prep

Hilton Head Prep picked up an impressive shutout win over Savannah powerhouse St. Vincent’s on Friday, blanking the Saints 2-0 at home. 

Averi Alton netted both goals for the Dolphins in the second half, scoring off an Ella Clark cross before finding the back of the net again on a feed from Cat Zamora. 

Emily Brothers notched the clean sheet in goal, while Zamora, Ashlyn Parsick, Haley Majors, Bryn Miller, Alexis Terry, and Haylee Hopman locked down a potent St. Vincent’s offense. 

Hilton Head Prep (4-0) travels to Pinewood Prep  on March 18. 

Holy Trinity at Phillip Simmons

The Iron Horses led 1-0 at halftime and pulled away from the defending SCISA 1A champions in the second half for a 6-0 victory. 

Holy Trinity (0-2) travels to Hilton Head Christian Academy on Tuesday.
