TEAM OF THE WEEK

Whale Branch Warriors (2-0)

The Warriors were itching to play in Week 2 but saw five different matchups go by the wayside due to COVID-19 protocols, so they were really geared up for Week 3. St. John’s was thought to be one of the stronger challengers to Whale Branch’s throne in Region 7-1A, but the Warriors had little trouble dispatching the Islanders in a 41-0 road win. Joseph Hicks had another big game on the ground, and Georgia transfer Darrell Cummings made a solid debut in the backfield, giving offensive coordinator Adam Kinloch yet another weapon to deploy. The passing game is making big strides, and the defense got after it at St. John’s, racking up nine tackles for loss and two takeaways. Jerry Hatcher’s team is built for a deep run in the playoffs.

GAME OF THE WEEK

Thomas Heyward at Hilton Head Prep

This Lowco-on-Lowco battle has been a bit lopsided in recent years, as the Rebels’ dynasty has coincided with a slight dip for the Dolphins. But with Hilton Head Prep entering the game with a 3-0 record for the first time since 2007 and THA looking to bounce back from a tough overtime loss to Bluffton, there’s a bit of intrigue in this week’s Sea Pines matinee. HHP’s defense has been outstanding and has posted two straight shutouts, but it will face a serious test against a Rebels offense that has done damage against public school opponents.
