HS LAX: Six area teams set for playoffs starting Wednesday

The SCHSL lacrosse playoff brackets are set, and four area girls teams and two boys squads from the Lowco are ready to take their best shot at a state championship run.

The most realistic title hopes have to belong to May River’s boys, who earned the No. 2 seed in the Class 4A boys bracket and will host region rival Hilton Head High in Wednesday’s first round. The Sharks swept the season series from the Seahawks with two regular-season wins.

The lofty seed sets the Sharks up to play at home through the state semifinals. If they can get past the Seahawks again, they’ll host the Christ Church-Irmo winner in Saturday’s second round with the winner likely facing No. 3 Waccamaw or No. 6 Bishop England in the semifinals.

On the girls side, No. 4 seed Hilton Head High drew the highest seed among area squads and will host No. 13 Philip Simmons on Wednesday with the winner taking on No. 5 AC Flora or No. 12 Academic Magnet on Saturday.

Bluffton drew the No. 7 seed in the girls bracket and will host No. 10 Waccamaw in the first round. If the Bobcats advance, a rematch with region power Lucy Beckham likely awaits in the second round.

Beaufort High’s girls are the No. 8 seed and will host No. 9 Greenville with the winner likely headed for a duel with top-seeded Bishop England on Saturday, while May River is the No. 14 seed and will travel to No. 3 Oceanside Collegiate on Wednesday.
