HSGOLF: Bowes, Sharks claim region crowns

May River girls golf breezed to the Region 7-4A title with an impressive performance Monday at Chechessee Creek Club. 

After sweeping the regular-season region matches, the Sharks finished their perfect run with an 18-hole score of 330, easily defeating Hilton Head High (365), Bluffton (398), Beaufort High (471), and James Island (481).

May River’s Kylie Bowes shot 4-over-par 76 to earn medalist honors, recording the only score in the 70s on a breezy afternoon. Her teammate and sister, Sydney Bowes, placed second with an 82, followed by Hilton Head High’s Alexia Milbrandt (83) and May River’s Hannah Harris (84) and Robbin Zetrouer (88). Hilton Head High’s Eliza Jane Coulter (90) rounded out the all-region team.

The teams will compete in the Class 4A Lower State qualifier Monday at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence in hopes of qualifying for the Class 4A State Championship on Oct. 26-27 at the Port Royal Barony Course on Hilton Head Island.
