Each week throughout the high school boys basketball season, we recognize the standouts from the previous week’s action with the Lowco Boys Basketball Spotlight presented by Hilton Head Insurance & Brokerage.
We select an offensive and defensive player of the week, as well as a Team of the Week, and highlight the biggest game of the upcoming week.
Here’s this week’s installment of the Lowco Boys Basketball Spotlight presented by Hilton Head Insurance & Brokerage.
PRESENTING SPONSOR
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tyler Rice, BLHS
How could we pick anyone else? Rice rained in 22 points, including the game-winning 3-pointer, against Colleton County on Friday, which happened to be his birthday *and* Senior Day for the Bobcats. What a way to go out in his last home game at The Den, and clinch a playoff spot in the process.
Also nominated: Rush Riley, BHS; Gaston Moore, HHIHS; Harry Cash, MRHS; Brandon Howard, RHHS; Nick Pringle, WB; Tyrone Calloway, HHP; Floyd Hargrove, HHCA

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nick Pringle, WB
Pringle can dominate at both ends of the court, and he did so while leading the Warriors to three more wins to close out the regular season and claim a region title. The Wofford signee averaged 16.5 points, 17 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and one steal per game in two games last week, then took it easy in a lopsided victory Monday.
Also nominated: Daniel Phares, BHS; Lee Kirkland, BLHS; Sam Summa, HHIHS; Rashard Baker, RHHS; Stone McDonald, HHP; Daniel Harrington, HHCA

TEAM OF THE WEEK
Whale Branch Warriors (3-0 last week, 17-6 overall)
The Warriors closed out the Region 5-2A title in style, winning their last three region games by an average of 30 points, including a 62-23 shellacking of Allendale-Fairfax in a rematch of Whale Branch’s only region loss. The Warriors will have home-court advantage through at least the first three rounds of the playoffs, so the road to the Lower State championship goes through Seabrook.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Hilton Head High at Colleton County, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday
Who would have thought the Seahawks would be playing for a region title on the final night of the regular season in coach Chane Brown’s first season? Yes, sir, I’m sure you did, but it’s a rhetorical question. Brown’s first year at the helm has been nothing short of fantastic, and the Seahawks get a chance to add some punctuation on the road tonight. Buckle up.
