HSFB: State playoff brackets (mostly) set

The high school football playoff brackets are set — almost.

One area team is still waiting to find out who it will face in the first round of the postseason, but eight others can now map out their paths to the state championship.

Region 7-4A champion Beaufort High received a first-round bye and will host the Hartsville-South Aiken winner in the second round Nov. 15. Hilton Head High opens the Class 4A playoffs at home Friday against Wilson, the No. 3 seed from Region 6-4A.

In the Class 3A bracket, May River will open at home against Swansea, while Battery Creek travels to Strom Thurmond and Ridgeland-Hardeeville opens at Gilbert.

Whale Branch is still awaiting official word of its first-round opponent, as the SCHSL has not yet ruled on Oceanside Collegiate’s eligibility case, which could impact the Region 6-2A standings.

Hilton Head Christian Academy is a top seed in the SCISA 2A bracket and opens at home against Greenwood Christian on Friday. If the Eagles win, they could host a rematch with rival Hilton Head Prep, which travels to Florence Christian for its first-round matchup.

Thomas Heyward begins its SCISA 1A title defense at home against Dillon Christian.
