Holy Trinity Classical Christian School swept the SCISA 1A team titles Saturday at the SCISA Cross Country State Championships at Heathwood Hall in Columbia.
It’s the third team title in four years for each program.
Holy Trinity’s boys won in dominant fashion, totaling 41 points to easily outpace runner-up South Aiken Christian (87) and third place Beaufort Academy (122). All seven Holy Trinity runners finished in the top 25, led by individual champion Collin Durham, whose 5K time of 16:38 was 47 seconds faster than the second runner across the line. Luke Greene (17:52) finished fifth and Logan Lawson (18:08) was ninth, followed by Parker Smith (13th, 18:29), Ethan Marquardt (15th, 18:38), Daniel Reedy (16th, 18:58), and Caleb Stone (25th, 19:57).
Joseph Patterson (17:55) led BA with a sixth-place finish, Ashton Bell (18:18) was 11th, and Maleik Chalmers (19:52) finished 23rd.
Holy Trinity’s girls had a tougher race for the top spot, totaling 47 points to edge Lowcountry Prep by three points as all six Lions runners finished in the top 23 overall. Ellie Schaub (22:43) led the way in seventh, with Izzy Hipple (9th, 23:30) and Hannah Reedy (10th, 23:34) also finishing in the top 10, followed by Virginia Brunson (20th, 25:07), Elise Marquardt (22nd, 25:38), and Jubilee Mayo (23rd, 25:56).
BA’s lone runner, Alyssa Lewis, placed 19th in 24:58.
In the SCISA 2A girls race, Hilton Head Christian Academy’s Devon Yarde just missed an individual title, finishing second on 19:05, just four seconds behind Spartanburg Christian’s Susannah Lyon.
Hilton Head Prep’s girls finished fifth overall, with Annabella Platt (21:14) leading the way in 16th and Elizabeth Eisinger (21:50) in 23rd. Lauren Wenigar (26th, 22:04) led John Paul II, which did not have enough runners to post a team score.
John Paul II led the local contingent in the SCISA 2A boys race, finished sixth to edge Hilton Head Prep (7th) and HHCA (9th). Noah Brock (16th, 17:38) led JPII, while Beckett Jones (26th, 18:23) led the Dolphins, and Harrison Arnholt (54th, 20:13) was the first HHCA runner across the line.
