HSFB: Playoff scenarios for Week 10

Playoff seeding is on the line in tonight’s high school football games, and some of the playoff scenarios are pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty confusing, so we’re here to help sort them out.

There are no region games remaining in SCISA 2-1A (Thomas Heyward), and Beaufort Academy has been eliminated from playoff contention, so their region is not included.

Region 7-4A

Key games: Beaufort High at Colleton County, Bluffton at Hilton Head High

If Beaufort and HHIHS win:

1. Beaufort (3-0)
2. HHIHS (2-1)
3. Colleton County (1-2)
4. Bluffton (0-3)

If Beaufort and Bluffton win:

1. Beaufort (3-0)
*Three-way tie for second (1-2)

If Colleton County and HHIHS win:

*Three-way tie for first (2-1)
4. Bluffton (0-3)

If Colleton County and Bluffton win:

1. Colleton County (2-1)
2. Beaufort (2-1)
3. Bluffton (1-2)
4. HHIHS (1-2)

*In the case of a three-way tie, the tiebreaker(s) will be (1) fewest points allowed in games among the tied teams, (2) most points scored in games among the tied teams. Once the initial tie is broken, head-to-head results will break the remaining tie.

Region 8-3A

Key games: Wade Hampton at May River, Lake Marion at Ridgeland-Hardeeville

1. May River/Wade Hampton winner (4-0)
2. May River/Wade Hampton loser (3-1)
3. Battery Creek (2-2)
4. RHHS/Lake Marion winner (1-3)
5. RHHS/Lake Marion loser (1-3)

Region 5-2A

Whale Branch is locked into the No. 4 seed

SCISA 2-2A

Key games: Hilton Head Prep at Hilton Head Christian Academy, Orangeburg Prep at Northwood Academy

If HHCA and Orangeburg Prep win:

1. HHCA (4-0)
2. Orangeburg Prep (3-1)
3. Hilton Head Prep (2-2)
4. Northwood (1-3)
5. John Paul II (0-4)

If HHP and OP win:

*Three-way tie for first (3-1)
4. Northwood (1-3)
5. JPII (0-4)

If HHCA and Northwood win:

1. HHCA (4-0)
*Three-way tie for second (2-2)
5. JPII (0-4)

If HHP and Northwood win:

1. HHP (3-1)
2. HHCA (3-1)
3. Northwood (2-2)
4. OP (2-2)
5. JPII (0-4)

*In case of a three-way tie, the SCISA Football Point System will be used to break the initial tie, then head-to-head will break the remaining tie. The SCISA Football Point System applies only to region games. The winning team receives 10 points plus one for each marginal point up to 15 (i.e., a 7-point win is worth 17 points, a 15-point win is worth 25, and a 50-point win is worth 25). (Editor’s note: Do not attempt to do these calculations unless absolutely necessary, unless you enjoy migraine headaches.)
