Although no team stood out above the rest this season, the level of play across the Lowcountry continues to rise, as evidenced by the players on the second annual All-Lowco Girls Soccer Team.
Only one area team captured a state championship — SCISA Class 1A Holy Trinity — but several others established themselves as state title contenders. Among them, Hilton Head Prep finished as SCISA 2A runner-up, and May River and Bluffton each advanced to the third round of the playoffs.
These players established themselves as the area’s best.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Brian McCarthy, Bluffton
In his first season at the helm, McCarthy had the Bobcats peaking at the right time. After losing six starters from last season — including two first-team All-Lowco players — Bluffton started off slow but rounded into form in time for region play. The Bobcats stunned perennial power Hilton Head High to claim the region title and advanced to the third round of the Class 4A playoffs.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Ansleigh Crenshaw, Hilton Head Prep
On a talent-laden team, Crenshaw was the linchpin in her center midfield position. Though her goals (31) and assists (12) did not lead the team, she was often the catalyst to her teammates’ success. Dolphins coach Risa McMillan called Crenshaw the most fine-tuned SCISA player she has seen in six years at Hilton Head Prep.
