HS Wrestling: Beaufort High Sends 10 To Lower State Semis

Beaufort High put 10 wrestlers through to the championship semifinals on the first day of the Class 4A Lower State Championships on Friday at Bluffton High School.

The Eagles have 10 wrestlers — Gary Bayne (106), Payton Bayne (113), Marcus Spann (126), Matthew Durrance (132), Jacob Denton (138), Robert Cruikshank (145), James Dagin (152), Jeremiah Simmons (160), Michael Cenci (170), and Theo Washington (195) — who are one win away from clinching a top-four finish and qualifying for next weekend’s state tournament.

Hilton Head High’s James Levy (106) and Drew Vigh (113) and Bluffton’s Xavier Dykstra (220) also reached the semifinals, which will lead off the schedule when the double-elimination tournament resumes Saturday morning.

The top four finishers at each weight class qualify for the state tournament next weekend in Anderson.
