HSFB: Unsung Heroes, Week 7

While we wait to see who will be crowned this week’s RBC Heritage Player of the Week – and whether the Friday Night Lights will shine in the wake of Hurricane Michael – let’s throw a little love to the guys who worked behind the scenes last Friday.

This space is devoted to the road graders on the offensive line, the run-stuffers and shutdown DBs on defense, and the special teams standouts. In other words, the guys who don’t have the shiny statistics that attract the spotlight.

We call them the Unsung Heroes, and here they are for Week 7 of the high school football season.

• JPII WR/DB Rashad Battiste: 90-yard KR-TD; 1 catch for 18 yards; PBU in 60-19 win over Northwood Academy

• HHCA DL Kent Camp: 15 tackles, 3 TFL, sack in 42-28 win over Orangeburg Prep

• MRHS LB Eli Hall: 16 tackles, forced fumble, PBU in 41-7 win over Ridgeland-Hardeeville

• BA LB Edward McCormick: 23 tackles; rushing TD in 40-28 loss to Andrew Jackson Academy

• BLHS DE Ely’Jiah Mitchell: 11 tackles, 3 TFL, sack in 28-14 win over Beaufort High

• BLHS LB Kylan Simmons: 11 tackles, 3 TFL, 2 sacks, INT in 28-14 win over Beaufort High

• JPII QB Sam Summa: 4-5 passing, 90 yards, 2 TDs; 27 yards, TD on five carries in 60-19 win over Northwood Academy

• BLHS LB Jaylon Thompson: 9 tackles, 3 TFL, sack, INT in 28-14 win over Beaufort High

• MRHS DB Jayden Void: 9 tackles, FF, 3 PBUs, INT in 41-7 win over Ridgeland-Hardeeville

• BCHS DE Brandon Wilson: 5 tackles, 2 TFL, 2 sacks, FF, FR in 41-20 win over Lake Marion
