Beaufort High’s wrestling team won the team title at the Seahawk Duals for the first time, defeating host Hilton Head High in the final match Friday.
Dominant wins over Dutch Fork (54-14) and Socastee (54-21) in pool matches Thursday put the Eagles into the championship pool with South Pointe, Easley, and Hilton Head High on Friday.
Beaufort High defeated South Pointe (36-31) and lost to Easley (36-34), but the Seahawks knocked off Easley so the Eagles’ 40-33 win over Hilton Head High forged a three-way tie and Beaufort High won the tiebreaker on point differential.
It was a preview of what should be a great match for the Region 8-4A title on Jan. 15 at Colleton County. The Seahawks were ranked sixth in Class 4A with the Eagles ranked seventh in the most recent rankings released Dec. 19.
Beaufort High is back in action Wednesday, hosting Bamberg-Ehrhardt and Bishop England for a double dual. Hilton Head High and John Paul II travel to May River for a double dual on Jan. 10.
