For the first time since 2012, Hilton Head High’s boys will play in the championship game of the Omni Resort Hilton Head Seahawk Holiday Classic.
The host Seahawks advanced to the title game of the 31st annual tournament with a 70-47 win over Academic Magnet on Friday. They will face Miramar (Fla.), which defeated West Orange (Fla.) 57-55 in the other semifinal, at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Hilton Head High has not won the event since 2004.
Chris Washington poured in 24 points, Trevor Wright added 18, and Davis Molloy had 11 to lead the Seahawks (6-3).
The Seahawk boys were the only local team in the tournament field to win for the second straight day. The Whale Branch boys lost 33-19 to Marvin Ridge (N.C.) to fall into the seventh-place game against Robertsdale (Ala.) at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
In the girls bracket, the host Seahawks lost 51-9 to Bishop Verot (Fla.) with Alexis Mervin leading Hilton Head High with four points. The Seahawks (2-7) will take on Region 8-4A rival Beaufort High in the seventh-place game at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Eagles (5-6) lost 43-39 to Elizabethton (Tenn.) despite 13 points from Brittany Linton.
