Lowco HS Boys Soccer Roundup, March 6

After honing their skills in preseason tournaments, high school boys soccer teams across the Lowco have launched into their regular season, and we’ve already had a few key region matchups on the schedule. Here’s a look at the boys soccer action from around the Lowco on Friday.

Beaufort at Bluffton

Luis Rojas scored a pair of goals and Humberto Rodriguez added one to lead the Bobcats to a 3-1 home win over the Region 7-4A rival Eagles to open the regular season Friday.

Bluffton (1-0, 1-0) hosts Hilton Head High for another region matchup at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Beaufort (0-1, 0-1) travels to James Island for a region clash at 7 p.m. Friday.

Colleton County at May River

Renty Kitty netted a hat trick and added an assist, and Zeke Chappelear matched the May River single-game record with four assists in an 8-0 home win over the Cougars to open region play Friday.

Chris Chin added a pair of goals, and fellow sophomores Alonzo Peña, Jacob Madeiros, and Johnny Silva each scored once for the Sharks, who put 21 shots on goal but were denied numerous times by outstanding efforts from the Cougars’ keeper. Brayden Garcia and Dallas Wisdom combined for the clean sheet, but May River’s defense did not allow a shot on goal.

May River (5-0, 1-0) travels to James Island at 7 p.m. Tuesday to take on the defending Class 4A state champions.

Battery Creek at Wade Hampton

The Dolphins continued their hot start to the season with a 7-2 win at Wade Hampton on Friday, scoring five goals and shutting out the Red Devils in the second half.

Isaac Vega and Ashton Morgan each scored a pair of goals, and Talmedge Magbee, Juan Jaimes, and Ivan Huerta added a goal apiece for the Dolphins, who limited the Red Devils to four shots on goal with Noah Northway making two saves.

Battery Creek (4-1, 0-1) returns to Region 8-3A play Tuesday at Academic Magnet.
