It’s becoming an annual occurrence — the inevitable playoff meeting on the mat between Lowco wrestling powers May River and Hilton Head High. The Sharks and Seahawks will square off again Monday night at The Tank after both breezed through the first two rounds of the Class 4A dual playoffs.
The Sharks beat the Seahawks in the regular season to claim the Region 7-4A title and the top seed, but a postseason rematch always seemed likely, and SCMat.com’s third- and fourth-ranked teams in Class 4A had little trouble bringing it to fruition.
After a first-round bye, May River easily handled Airport 57-18, while the road trip to West Florence was the biggest challenge for the Seahawks on Saturday, as HHIHS routed Midland Valley 66-18 before knocking off the host Knights 53-24.
The rivals will square off at 6:30 p.m. Monday at May River with the winner advancing to the Lower State finals.
Beaufort High earned a 48-27 win over South Florence in the first round before being ousted 43-28 by host Aiken. Bluffton lost its first-round match 52-15 to South Aiken.
