Bluffton girls basketball was able to shake off a sluggish start Friday at Colleton County and use another dominant defensive effort to cruise past the Cougars 47-17 to stay perfect in region play and clinch another Region 7-4A title.
The Cougars got off to a quick start, as Bethany Monroe hit a 3-pointer and Makayla Chisolm converted a 3-point play to stake the underdogs to a 10-7 lead after one quarter. The offensive success ended there for Colleton, as the Bobcats pitched a shutout in the second quarter and limited a dangerous Cougars team to seven points in the second half.
Tacoya Heyward scored 14 of her game-high 20 points in the first half, and fellow sophomore guard Katie Rodney added 14 of her 17 in the second half to lead the Bobcats. Chisolm scored eight points, and Monroe added seven for the Cougars.
Bluffton (18-1, 10-0) hosts James Island on Tuesday in a matchup of the region’s top two teams. CCHS (11-10, 3-7) hosts Beaufort High on Tuesday.
