Bluffton girls basketball clamped down on defense to cruise to a 37-19 home win over crosstown rival May River on Friday, sweeping the season series from the Sharks to stay perfect in region play.

The Bobcats bolted out to a 9-2 lead after one quarter and held a 19-6 advantage at halftime, and their stifling defense ensured May River couldn’t make any headway in the second half.
Tacoya Heyward scored 11 points, Madi Washington added nine, and Katie Rodney had eight in a balanced effort from the Bobcats.
Brooke Dalton and Morgan Scott scored five points each for the Sharks.
Bluffton (16-1, 9-0) takes a break from region play to host Effingham County on Tuesday. May River (6-10, 2-6) plays a home-and-home series with Hilton Head High on consecutive nights, hosting the Seahawks on Tuesday before traveling to the island on Wednesday.
