Shandi Brown shined with 19 points, and Colleton County girls basketball earned a much-needed 46-40 region win Thursday over visiting May River to split the season series with the Sharks.

After a tight opening quarter with the Sharks on top 13-12, Colleton County took control in the second with a 15-4 burst to grab a 10-point halftime lead. May River clawed back to within seven heading into the fourth, but Brown and the Cougars held off the comeback effort to secure a six-point victory.
Brown came through with a brillant offensive showing, pouring in a game-high 19 points. Makayla Chisolm put up a strong 13 points, and Bethany Monroe posted nine for the Cougars. Morgan Scott paced the Sharks with 14 points, and Morgan Kronimus added eight.
The win pulls the Cougars even with the Sharks in the Region 7-4A standings with both a half game behind Hilton Head High for the No. 4 spot.
Colleton County (10-7, 2-4) hosts Lucy Beckham on Tuesday. May River (6-8, 2-4) returns home to face James Island on Tuesday.
