It was a tough night for Beaufort High boys basketball Tuesday, as the Eagles lost 73-44 to Goose Creek in the Pro Skills Basketball Showcase — and their bus broke down on the way home.

It was the sixth game in 12 days for the Eagles, a stretch that began just a week after the Class 4A state championship football game in which more than half the roster played. Even the bus was out of gas.
The Eagles didn’t have an answer for Goose Creek’s Justin Britt, who poured in 21 points, or freshman Shane Potts, who added 16, and the Gators also managed to contain Beaufort’s trio of bigs, relatively speaking.
Michael Dennison scored 13 points, James Dennison was limited to nine and 11 rebounds, and Zyrin Odom added nine points.
Beaufort (4-4) returns to region play at James Island on Jan. 4.
