HSBBB: Cougars’ cold snap costly in loss to Bengals

Colleton County boys basketball went cold at the offensive end in the second half Friday, letting a six-point halftime lead slip away in a 67-53 loss at Lucy Beckham.

The Cougars came out of the gate firing, as Brian Hamilton poured in 14 points in the first half and Mykeem Gant added 12 to lead Colleton County to a 40-34 halftime lead. But the Bengals kept hitting after halftime, and the Cougars went cold.

Beckham shut out Hamilton in the second half and limited Gant to six points after the break, and Colleton didn’t have an answer.

Noah Bailes scored 19 points, Thomas Oppold added 14, and Malin Allard chipped in 13 for the Bengals.

Colleton County (4-5, 0-2) plays Branchville on Tuesday to open the Cougar Classic.
