May River boys basketball couldn’t hang onto a halftime lead Friday at James Island, as the Trojans surged to a 44-41 home win in a key Region 7-4A matchup.

Gavin Blocker continued his hot streak with a 17-point night, and Chris Cash scored all eight of his points in the first half, as the Sharks surged out to a 13-7 lead after one quarter and held a 24-17 advantage at halftime.
But James Island’s Braxton Scott caught fire after halftime, scoring 12 of his 14 after the break and draining four 3-pointers to lead the Trojans back. Dezmond Lewis added 12 points and Wallace Pettis had eight for James Island, which outscored the Sharks 16-6 in the third quarter to turn the tide and held off May River down the stretch.
Josh Evander also had eight points for May River.
The Sharks (6-4, 1-1) play at Hanahan on Dec. 30.
