HSWR: Sharks lead Lowco contingent, Creek on heels at Coastal Clash

May River is in fourth place and Battery Creek is in sixth after the opening night of the 22-team Coastal Clash wrestling tournament being held at Hilton Head High.

The Sharks put seven wrestlers through to the championship quarterfinals on Friday, the most among Lowco-area teams, and compiled 55 points on day one, leaving them behind only Carolina Forest (74), Ashley Ridge (67), and Brunswick (64). Battery Creek has collected 53 points but has only three wrestlers in the quarterfinals and seven remaining in the consolation rounds. 

Host Hilton Head High is in 12th with 43 points, while Beaufort (36) is 16th. The Seahawks have five wrestlers in the quarterfinals, while Bluffton and Thomas Heyward each have one quarterfinalist.

Wrestling resumes at 11 a.m. Saturday at HHIHS. Here’s a look at the Lowco-area wrestlers who are still in the hunt for gold:
