HS GOLF: Bowes, Sharks lead trio of Lowco squads atop qualifying list

The defending champs of SCHSL 4A girls golf are on a mission to run it back, and they proved it on the course Monday.

Thanks to a pair of stellar showings from Kylie Bowes and Claire Green, May River posted an impressive 329 to lead a 1-2-3 Lowco finish in the Lower State Qualifier at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence.

Hilton Head High took second with a mark of 363, and Bluffton was right behind in third at 366.

Bowes led the way for the Sharks with a 3-over 75, finishing second in the individual standings as Madison Messimer of Myrtle Beach claimed medalist honors with a dazzling 6-under 66. Green (78) tied for third, and Robbin Zetrouer (82) took sixth to help the Sharks secure a commanding 34-shot victory.

Hilton Head (363) also qualified for the state finals with a runner-up finish. Eighth-grader Brooke Niclaus (84) paced the Seahawks, while Alexia Milbrandt (88) and Eliza Jane Coulter (90) turned in solid scores to secure second place.

Behind a terrific round from Anna LaPour (85), Bluffton placed third to book its spot in the state tournament. Lucia Serratelli (90) and Jennifer Richardson (92) came up big to lift the Bobcats into the top three.

Beaufort High (460) fell short of the top nine teams and failed to qualify.

The Class 4A state championship will take place at the Crescent Pointe Golf Club in Bluffton on Monday and Tuesday.
