HSVB: Seahawks top HHCA in strong showing at Island Bash

Hilton Head High volleyball cemented its Lowco dominance over the weekend, downing Hilton Head Christian Academy in straight sets to highlight a 3-1 showing at the Island Bash. 

The host Seahawks made easy work of a talented Eagle side on Friday, winning both sets 25-13 and 25-15.

Former HHCA star Ady O’ Grady dominated to lead HHIHS, recording nine kills alongside eight digs, two aces, and a block. Makenna Mason was excellent at setter, earning 22 assists with six kills. Ava Edri put together a tremendous all-around performance, notching four kills, six digs, and an ace.

Marissa Majorkiewicz impressed for Hilton Head Christian, posting seven kills and three digs, while Abby Peduzzi and Kate Booth added four kills each. Amelia Auld led the way on defense with a strong six-dig showing. 

After a tough 2-0 defeat to Porter-Gaud on Saturday (22-25, 21-25), the Seahawks picked up two more wins to close out the weekend. Hilton Head High stormed past First Presbyterian Day (Ga.) for a straight-set win (25-7, 25-5) behind an incredible seven aces from Bailey Olive, and downed South Aiken (25-19, 25-14) thanks to 12 O’Grady kills and eight digs from Alli Misko.

Hilton Head Christian went 3-2 in the event, earning impressive straight-set victories over Lee County (Ga.) (25-21, 25-17), Bluffton (26-24, 25-23), and Porter-Gaud (25-22, 25-16) before coming up short in its final match against Bishop England (14-25, 10-25).  

The Bobcats also played Bishop England (13-25, 14-25) and Porter-Gaud (17-25, 18-25), dropping both matches in straight sets. 

Hilton Head High (23-4-1, 8-0) looks to keep its perfect region mark intact Tuesday at Colleton County. Hilton Head Christian (17-6, 6-0) hosts rival Hilton Head Prep on Tuesday, while Bluffton (5-14, 1-6) faces Beaufort High on the road Tuesday.
