It was a beautiful Friday night in the Lowco, especially for May River, Thomas Heyward, Hilton Head Christian Academy, and Hilton Head Prep, who picked up big wins in Week 5 of the high school football season.
We’ll have full recaps and multimedia content throughout the weekend, but here’s your first glance at the action from around the Lowco in Week 5. It’s the Lowco First Down:
Pinewood Prep 48, John Paul II 36: The Golden Warriors rolled up 464 yards of total offense and had three 100-yard rushers, but they couldn’t keep pace with the Panthers’ pass-happy attack, as Pinewood scored a pair of late touchdowns for a wild win Thursday at Charleston Southern.
Wade Hampton 28, Hilton Head High 24: Jaylen Sneed scored three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score with 4:35 left, but the Red Devils rallied for the winning score with 26 seconds left to remain undefeated.
May River 24, Blythewood 14: Garvin Douglas scored a pair of rushing touchdowns, and Naszier Chisolm’s pick-6 punctuated a second-half shutout for the Sharks, who snapped a two-game skid with an impressive win heading into region play.
North Central 36, Battery Creek 14: Jeremiah Dilbert and Dreshaun Brown scored touchdowns for the Dolphins, but the Knights jumped out to a 29-0 lead and didn’t let up, spoiling Creek’s homecoming.

Baptist Hill 30, Whale Branch 25: Joseph Hicks broke three long touchdown runs and picked off a pass, but the Warriors couldn’t hang onto a 25-8 halftime lead in a heartbreaking home loss to Baptist Hill.
Thomas Heyward 24, Beaufort Academy 0: Brandon Howard opened the scoring with a 70-yard TD run, and Tony Obanner and James Townsend added TDs for the Rebels, who held a strong BA offense to 221 total yards in the shutout.
