HSVB: Dolphins dig out of early hole to beat Rebels

Hilton Head Prep volleyball rallied for a road win Thursday, defeating Thomas Heyward in four sets. 

The Rebels took the opening frame 25-20, but Hilton Head Prep responded with dominant 25-10 and 25-5 showings in the second and third sets. Thomas Heyward looked to battle back in the fourth, but the Dolphins closed it out 25-16 to lock up the region victory. 

Ashley Wilmot shined for HHP, racking up seven kills, 10 digs, and four aces. Haylee Hopman tallied 11 digs to go with three kills and four aces, while Gabby Bettez dished out 12 assists. Gracie Palumbo-Alkire was a beast at the net, notching eight blocks alongside five kills. Annie Braun excelled on the defensive side with 10 digs and delivered a team-high five aces.

Macy Taylor led the way for the Rebels, picking up seven kills with 10 digs. Keleigh Bowers turned in an impressive 14-dig showing, and Brooke Smith added seven kills, nine digs, and an ace.

Hilton Head Prep (12-5-2, 4-3) hosts Savannah side Veritas Academy on Saturday.

Thomas Heyward (3-9, 1-3) is home Monday for a region contest with Hilton Head Christian.
