It turns out the only thing that could slow down the rise of girls lacrosse in the Lowco was a worldwide pandemic. After losing most of the 2020 season to COVID-19 protocols, the area’s girls programs picked up where they left off in 2021.
The quality of play in the Lowco took another step up in 2021 with Hilton Head High leading the way with a trip to the Class 4A semifinals and Beaufort High putting together its best season ever, including the Eagles’ first playoff appearance.
LowcoSports.com’s editorial staff crunched the numbers and consulted with area coaches to honor the area’s best players from the 2021 season with the first-ever All-Lowco Girls Lacrosse Team presented by Keith Funeral & Cremation Services.

COACH OF THE YEAR
Kara Cooke, HHIHS
The quality of coaching has been a major factor in the rise of girls lacrosse in the Lowco, and the Seahawks’ leader had plenty of competition for this honor, especially from Jim Smith, who has quickly built Beaufort High into a strong contender in the region. But Cooke’s Seahawks showed vast improvement over the course of the season and peaked in time for the playoffs, winning five straight and eight of nine before bowing out against powerhouse Bishop England in the state’s final four.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Anna Ferrebee, HHIHS
When the Seahawks needed a big goal, they knew were the ball needed to go. Ferrebee showed a knack for finding the back of the net in a breakout junior season, racking up a Lowco-best 48 goals with 12 hat tricks in 15 games, including an incredible 11 straight games with at least three goals. Like her team, she gained steam as the season progressed, recording a pair of six-goal games in the first two rounds of the playoffs to propel Hilton Head High to the Class 4A semifinals.
