HS BSOC: Yellowjackets end Seahawks’ season in penalty shootout

Hilton Head High boys soccer suffered a tough season-ending loss Wednesday, falling in penalty kicks after a 1-1 stalemate at North Augusta in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs. 

The Yellowjackets jumped out in front with an early goal in the third minute, but Hilton Head settled in and started to dominate the play. 

After coming close on numerous chances, the Seahawks tied the game with an Alan Leyva tap-in on a dazzling cross from Nate Bowen.

Freshman Andres Abril stepped up in his first varsity action for HHIHS, helping his squad gain control of the midfield in the second half. Neither team could find the winner in extra time, pushing the contest to penalty kicks. 

North Augusta’s goalkeeper came up huge in the shootout, making two clutch saves to lead the home side to victory. 

HHIHS concludes the season with a record of 12-4.
