HS GOLF: HHCA’s Green stays hot with 4th-place finish at Southern Cross

Hilton Head Christian Academy’s Max Green picked up right where he left off after his SCISA 2A individual title, earning an impressive fourth-place finish with a 2-over 144 to lead a group of area high school golf standouts at the Southern Cross Invitational in Aiken on Friday and Saturday. 

Green began his tournament with a pair of double bogeys on the front nine Friday, but he found his groove starting on the ninth hole, racking up five birdies the rest of the way to card an even-par 71.

After another tough start in round two on Saturday with two bogeys in the first three holes, the senior and West Virginia signee bounced back with a remarkable eagle on the par-four fourth and carried the momentum to a respectable 73, claiming a tie for fourth place. 

Teammate Aiden LeBlanc finished in 36th with a 155 and Sean Engler posted a 161. May River’s Andrew Swanson notched a top-50 finish in the prestigious event with a 157, and Beaufort High’s Jerry Bruns was three strokes behind with a 160.

HHCA was the only area team to post a team score, as the Eagles finished 10th among 21 teams.
