HS GOLF: Hawkins, Seahawks edge Eagles at Ocean Point

Hilton Head High edged Beaufort High by three shots in another close duel between the county rivals in a five-team match at Fripp Island’s Ocean Point course Tuesday.

Led by medalist Nolan Hawkins, who fired an even-par 36, the Seahawks posted a team total of 153 to edge the Eagles (156). May River (174) edged Bluffton (179) for third, and Battery Creek was fifth.

Garrett Fader and Ben Batson carded matching 38s for the Seahawks, while Elliott Jones shot 41 and Michael Gavin posted a 44.

That was just enough to take down the Eagles, who were led by Simon McAlister (37), Jack Lubkin (38), and Jerry Bruns (39). Bluffton’s Jones Saylor carded a 40, and Andrew Swanson led May River with a 41.

The teams are back in action Thursday at Eagle’s Pointe.
