Beaufort High baseball used a pair of home runs and a six-run third inning to break open a tied game and rolled to an 11-1 win over visiting Colleton County on Monday.
The game was tied at 1 before the Eagles erupted in the third, stringing together four hits sandwiched around an error to plate three runs before Matt Bornsheuer launched a three-run homer to make it 7-1. Beaufort tacked on three more in the fourth and ended it early on Rhogue Wallace’s solo blast in the sixth.
Wallace had a monster game, going 2-for-2 with a homer, two walks, and four runs, while Rush Riley tripled and drove in three, and William Winburn was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Ollie Holmes went the distance on the mound for Beaufort, striking out eight and allowing just one unearned run on seven hits with one walk.
Bruce Carpenter was 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Michael Ortiz had a double for the Cougars.
Beaufort (7-7, 5-2) travels to Colleton County (4-12, 1-6) to complete the series Wednesday.
