Bluffton baseball gave up six runs in the second inning and couldn’t recover against a strong James Island pitching staff, falling 10-3 to the visiting Trojans on Monday.
The region-leading Trojans scored a run in the first and broke it open with a six-run second aided by a one-out error. James Island tacked on two in the third to make it 9-0, and the Bobcats could only manage single tallies in the fourth, sixth, and seventh as they tried to claw back into it.
Carson Yeager had a double, Eric Eastham singled, walked, and scored twice, and Nate Hoyt added an RBI single for the Bobcats.
Hayes Snow was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, Chase Worrill had three hits and an RBI, and Keillor Osbon had a double for James Island.
Stephen West earned the win on the mound, striking out six and walking three over 3 1-3 innings while allowing just one run and one hit. Three relievers combined to limit the Bobcats to two unearned runs and three hits over the final 3 2-3.
James Island can clinch the Region 7-4A title with a victory when the Bobcats make the return trip Wednesday.
