Beaufort High softball let a three-run lead slip away in the seventh inning and faced a three-run deficit in the extra frame before rallying for a wild 11-10 victory over visiting Hilton Head High in eight innings Wednesday.
The Seahawks were down to their last out with no runners on base in the seventh before a pair of hits, a walk, and two key errors opened the door for a three-run rally. Delcie Swift pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to force it to extras, and HHIHS claimed the lead on an Alexandra Fisher RBI single before two more runs scored on Beaufort’s sixth error of the night.
The Eagles bounced right back, though, as Kylie Rast roped an RBI double to right to plate a run, then scored along with Hayes Daugherty on Madison Sanchez’s two-run single to center. Nia Holmes followed with a single, and Sanchez swiped third and home to plate the winning run.
Kyrsten Cruikshank went 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs, and Sanchez was 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs to lead the Eagles at the plate. Leela Hildebrand added a pair of hits.
Rast went the distance in the circle, striking out 14 and allowing nine runs (two earned) on 10 hits and four walks.
Fisher was 4-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs, and three runs for the Seahawks, while Leah Anderson went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, and Reagan Marchant was 3-for-4 with a double and four runs.
The Eagles (5-9, 2-4) host crosstown rival Battery Creek on Friday.
The Seahawks (0-10, 0-9) host Wade Hampton for a non-region game Tuesday.
